The Cancer New Moon | The Stories we tell ourselves

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

The Cancer New Moon

On July 10, 02:16 UK time we have the Cancer New Moon. The New Moon that plants the seed to happiness and belonging.

Cancer is the place within the cosmos that deals with deep emotional feelings, all that takes place within our internal worlds. It’s all we need to feel safe, secure and happy. It’s what provides us with a sense of belonging, it’s our home, family and origin point.

What is a New Moon?

A New Moon happens when the Sun and Moon join together in the night sky. Once they kiss and connect they plant the seed of all that will bloom over the coming few weeks to the Full Moon.

When’s The Cancer New Moon

The Cancer New Moon will always take place during the Cancer Season: From June 21 through July 22 of any given year. Seasonally Cancer falls under the season of Summer (in the northern Hemisphere), the time of year where all is alive and excitement looming. Cancer therefore represents the fulfilment of the stories we grew up telling ourselves about life. It’s the promise of happiness, doesn’t the summer make everyone more hopeful for all that could be.

What does Cancer represent?

Cancer in Astrology can point to our place of safety, the home or sanctuary that protects and nourishes us. It’s all we need in life to feel fulfilled, and emotional and physically safe. In truth it’s what we need to be happy, if you don’t feel safe on all accounts you won’t open up and express the magic that’s you.

When we get around to the New Moon in Cancer it points to the time of year for investing in your internal worlds. To honor your feelings, take heed of your intuition, to nurture yourself and protect and hold close those who are near and dear to your heart.

Moon the Planetary Ruler of Cancer

Cancer is governed by the divine mother planet, Moon. Moon is the luminary that represents our soul, memories, dreams and security. She, of course, is the feeling to all we experience in life. Moon is our essence, our past, who we are and where we belong.

Cancer New Moon

So, if New Moon’s are the fertile seeds being firmly planted in our lives. Then, Cancer is the unlocking of some deep forgotten part of self, that’s soon to manifest and grow.

Remember I said that Cancer is all that’s internal, it deals with our responses to the external experiences in life. It also deals with psychic revelations, the subconscious, and all that our intuition picks up on, that the conscious, rational mind doesn’t.

It’s not the New Moon where things are easy, emotions are messy and confusing. It is a New Moon for you to address all you’ve denied, those inner demons and the ghosts that still haunt you late into the night. It’s about cultivating a positive change, and the time to consider the stories you’ve been telling yourself.

Cancer brings the energy of a crab, calling you to shed all you’ve outgrown, it brings vulnerability. The energy requires moving towards your joy, facing your deepest insecurities and discovering truths that set you free.

What the New Moon in Cancer brings

During the New Moon, energy can silence your outer world, as your inner world gets louder. Emotions may rise, sensitivity can take over, as you’re called to listen and reconnect with yourself.

As she grows over the coming weeks we all discover things about ourselves, our lives and relationships that we were blissfully blinded to. We come face to face with our deepest darkest insecurities, and are called to face those vulnerabilities. It’s with these revelations you can initiate powerful changes in your life, your past doesn’t need to be your future.

It’s all a matter of priorities, putting yourself first, nurturing and giving yourself what YOU need. The Cancer New Moon is encouraging personal growth, for you to shed the expectation to stay the same and find safety in just being you.

It’s a new moon to honor your instincts, and all your intuition is bringing your awareness to. It’s about coming back home to yourself and making space for your own story evolution.

Now Cancer falls in different spaces for each sign so we can discuss what it means for you next.

Questions to journal, think and reflect upon on the New Moon.

What does safety mean to me?

What is the primary emotion I’ve been resonating with lately?

What do I need right now?

Why do I need that thing?

What would your life look like if you had it?

What are you willing to give to manifest it?

What daily activity could you do that'll bring you closer to your manifestation?

What daily activity takes you away from manifesting it?

New Moon in the house by Ask a Little Witch

What does the Cancer New Moon mean for your Zodiac Sign?

The Cancer New Moon falls in a different area of life for each of the 12 Zodiac Signs. I find the Ascendant to be most indicative as to what is being seeded, but you can check each of your personal astrological placements in reference to what they symbolise.

For Example, you can check your Sun Sign to see how it might impact your external world, like your career. You could check your Moon Sign to see how it might influence your personal life. Venus might be indicative of relationships, while Mars might be more about how it motivates you, and Jupiter how it inspires you.

SAGITTARIUS: Shine a little light on it!

The Cancer New Moon activates your Eighth house of joint resources, secrets and change. The Eighth house in astrology points to what you gain as a result of other people.

The Eighth house New Moon can open the door to having access to something you didn’t before. Being as the Eight house deals with other people's stuff, be it money, trauma, assets and family. It can connect to things like: loans, inheritances, alimony and connection through association.

The New Moon in the Eighth house, can point towards change in financial opportunity, as much as it can point to a change or unexpected event that takes place in the life of someone you’re connected to.

We don’t have control over the Eighth house, it’s a place that we become entwined in someone else's stuff. It can present the themes around transformations, change and sudden events because we don’t have control over those things. It’s a place of vulnerability, intimacy, trust, truth, secrets, fear and trauma.

The Eighth house New Moon is one that plants the seed of change in our lives. It’s a time where we can become aware of the baggage we carry with us as a result of other people. It’s a wonderful time to get a psychic reading, to see a therapist, or a tax accountant, hire a PI or seek out the truth behind something that feels off or suspicious. It’s a time to trust your instincts and investigate for the proof.

It could be a time to work through your fears, the things that create blocks and barriers around intimacy. Seeing a sex therapist, or a fertility doctor if you’re trying to conceive are all things that can be seeded now.

The Eight house deals with issues around control and power. How much do you give away and how much do you keep for yourself. Do you give people what they deserve or what you want to give? When we give abundantly, it comes from a good place, but over time if the energy exchange isn’t balanced we can begin to feel like we’re being taken advantage over.

It might be time to consider your power/control balance in your relationships. Consider what you think people deserve before you give everything and leave nothing for yourself.

It’s also a time when I warn people against con-men/women. The Eighth house is a space that is riddled with mystery and intrigue. It’s seductive, exciting and deals with privacy themes. It’s a space where the Sun begins to set and everything begins to get dark that we cannot see as well as maybe we’d like to.
